It arrived in the retail packaging. I saw no indications that it was not official Apple packaging or an official Apple product. However, upon use, the adapter exhibited a ton of self noise when plugged into my Bose headphones, which indicates a poor circuit design or manfacturing of the product. My previous one exhibited no such problems. In-line controls also do not work. The product I received was a fake.
