I had already made sure that the motherboard would support the chip before ordering it, and I had the latest BIOS installed. Prior to inserting the CPU, I cleaned the contacts. I attempted three different insertions, cleaning the contacts each time. Everything worked perfectly when putting the original (i7-920) CPU back into the mobo, so I know that the problem was with the part I received. I did receive a refund by asking for a return.
