I was using a 2 foot little mag mount with the coil in the middle which worked ok for the town I live in and 2 surrounding towns. Once I put this antenna outside on the pole my TV antenna is on boom, I can hear 5 counties and about 45-50 miles around. YES it looks home made but very well done. This antenna is the right wave length for scanners, very well made and has big ears.

I use many different types, like discones, yagis, etc, -- the HG unit's simplicity, compactness, and sturdiness make it an easy goto for impromptu situations where getting one's ears up quickly, counts. Arrived quickly, and safely packed. Transaction AOK!
- t***e (141)- Feedback left by buyer.More than a year agoVerified purchaseI work in an ER 800MHz p25 is spoty at best. I have tried many antennas including remtronix and a yagi. So far this has been the best. Out side the hospital it's Evan better. Please remember, if you have obstacle or terrain issue, there is no antenna that fix this problem. You will need height and/or an obstacle free area. Some radio operators have recommended putting the antenna in the attic or crawl space for more elevation.
