After using a special tool to help line up the holes, I was able to securely attach the side bar and the rest of the installation went smoothly.

Only downside, the screws needed to be inverted so the nuts are outward pointing. Otherwise they'd cut into the passenger seat. Doesn't look as smooth at all.
