Then the route climbs into the mountains once more to cross the Apennines via densely forested Cisa Pass before a descent with sweeping vistas into Tuscany. The medieval city of Lucca provides a fitting conclusion to an amazing journey, or a staging point for those continuing on to the Via Francigena's climax at the Eternal City of Rome.
