I thought the book was well written and concise. It explains the basic material i..e data providers, ADO.NET w/ a SQL Server provider very well with detail. There are some portions of the book that are vague but overall it makes a great desktop reference for professional .NET developers.

Average Book
I really thought this book would be better. The subject matter is great but the auther does not go into deep details on the implementation as he skips over certain steps in between. I've developed several windows services in my career and I thought I would learn alot more from this book than I did, but the examples were pretty basic. I learned alot more off Google articles and reading the Windows Services chapter in Wrox's Professional C# 2005 and Apress' Pro C# 3.0
