Classic Charles Burns That Pops With Invention
This is absolute comics dynamite and a must for any fans of offbeat, beautifully drawn graphic novels, Black and white art with an almost inhuman precision, El Borbah is a visual treat.
Charles Burns is one of the comic world's brightest talents. With other such noted titles as Black Hole, Big Baby and his recent X'd Out trilogy (collected in one volume as Last Look)
This is a collection of early work from Burns, following El Borbah, a giant wrestler turned detective, who wanders the streets of a futuristic city inhabited by mutants, robots and monstrous humans. There's action, intrigue and dozens of wild looking characters.
Anyone aware of Burns' comics will be right at home here with the style. The contents of this book are pretty identical to Hard Boiled Defective Stories, which was a softcover version of this collection that is becoming rather hard to find. The format is identical to the hardcover versions of Big Baby and Skin Deep, with the red binding that were released by Fantagraphics. A nice decent size for reproducing Burns' art in all it's glory.
So, all in all a great book and one definitely for the keen collector of comic book gold.
